Interconnects
The following gives an overview of the changing popularity of the
different interconnects over the years.
- Each column show the top 500 list, YYMM.
- The rows represent the various types of interconnects as documented in the Top 500 database
- Each figure represents the number of interconnects for the given list.
- The large number of N/A entries in the early years can be
attributed to the big iron type machine, e.g. vector computers and SMPs,
and perhaps also to the fact that the interconnect field is a recent
addition to the database and that it was not documented originally by
the submitter.

Some interesting points to note:
- The Crossbar was very popular in the late 90's.
- Myrinet, Gigabit, Infiniband and Quadrics are this era's popular interconnects.
- It would of course be interesting to see what the top 1000 would have shown us!
